In September 2010, I contacted Joy and told her about my childhood dream that I would run a marathon before I turned 40. Time was running out and I had already registered for the last possible marathon, the 2011 A1A marathon. I was a regular at the gym but I was not a long distance runner. God had given me the legs for sprints and the body frame for playing rugby (I am from England originally). Joy asked me lots of questions (more than even my doctor has ever asked) and listened intently to my responses. She put together a training program that was customized for me. It was by no means easy, but it gave me so much confidence that I had a path to follow.
The reason I wanted to leave this testimonial is I remember reading Joy’s other testimonials and thinking that I do not resemble any of these people. Most of them were clearly accomplished runners already and Joy was there to take them to the next level. I was not even a long distance runner, I was not trying to win but simply finish! Joy had to start with the basics of running; form, cadence, breathing, and even choice of running shoes and gear. It is clear to me that if I did not have Joy to guide me, I would not have completed that first marathon. She prepared me for the pitfalls I was fearful of but also the ones that I was not even aware of at the beginning of my journey. In short, Joy is a coach that can work with runners at all levels. If you are a beginner (like I was) then you can feel reassured that you are in capable hands when you choose Joy as your coach. Since that first marathon, I have run another two marathons and a half marathon. My training has already started for the 2013 season and I am confident with more coaching from Joy to lower my PR’s.
Joy’s individual workout programs have made me a stronger, faster, and more efficient runner. Her training has prepared me both physically and mentally. I look forward to each new workout. Her experience and expertise has kept me focused and motivated throughout my long training schedule. With Joy’s help I have completed my first two marathons injury-free. As a former NCAA athlete, I didn’t anticipate setting new personal records. However, after just 3 months of training I have reached new records in both the 5K and 10K distances. Working with Joy has been a wonderful experience!

I started working with Joy after running my fourth half marathon. I always ran to stay in shape, but I wanted to see if I could get better despite a busy life with 4 children and a busy medical practice. Joy created a detailed running schedule for me and helped me work on my running technique, nutrition, hydration and the mental aspect of running that I never really considered before. Despite running more often and longer distances than I ever had before, I really never even got sore–let alone an injury. With Joy’s help, I was not only able to complete my first marathon but I set my personal best in my 5K and half marathon distances. I have known Joy for many years. My New Year’s resolution was to get healthy. Joy said she could help me if I was willing. We live on opposite sides of the country, so, it had to be online or on the phone. Joy listened to my goals, set up my schedule, and coached me through my first 25-pound weight loss. With Joy’s coaching, I have made true changes to my diet, my activity level, and my confidence. And, dropped two sizes and improved my cholesterol in the process.
